Lewandowski Takes Madrid Apart

Dortmund 4–1 Real Madrid · Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund

Four goals in a Champions League semi-final, a first for anyone.

Lewandowski scored in the 8th minute, Ronaldo levelled before the interval, and then it was all Dortmund's number 9: a strike through the offside trap at 50, his hat-trick at 55, and a penalty at 66 after Xabi Alonso fouled Reus. No one had scored four goals in a Champions League semi-final before. Madrid won the return 2-0, which still left Dortmund through 4-3 on aggregate.
