FIFA World Cup · Semi-final · 24 June 1958

Seventeen and a Hat-Trick

Brazil 5–2 France · Råsunda Stadium, Solna

Seventeen years old, three goals in 23 minutes, France finished.

Vavá put Brazil ahead inside two minutes and Fontaine levelled on nine. Then France's captain Jonquet was hurt and limped through the rest of the game, and Brazil took over: Didi made it 2-1 before the break and Pelé, 17, scored three times in 23 minutes after it. It finished 5-2 and Brazil were in the final.
