Rooney Turns His Back on Goal

Man Utd 2–1 Man City · Old Trafford, Manchester

A cross from Nani, a leap, and the derby was settled.

The derby was level at 1-1 when Nani crossed from the right. Rooney had his back to goal, so he left the ground and swung his right boot through it, and it flew into the top corner. Ferguson later said he had never seen a better strike at Old Trafford.
