Stoichkov Bends It Past The Champions

Bulgaria 2–1 Germany · Giants Stadium, East Rutherford

Stoichkov's free kick and Letchkov's header end Germany's reign.

Germany went ahead from the penalty spot and looked set to grind through. Stoichkov curled a free kick over the wall in the 75th minute, and three minutes later Letchkov's header put Bulgaria in front. The holders were out and Bulgaria were in the semi-finals.
