Three Goals, No Trophy

France 3–3 Argentina · 2–4 on pens · Lusail Stadium, Lusail, Qatar

Three goals in a World Cup final, and still not enough.

France were 2-0 down, with no attempt on goal and ten minutes left, when Mbappé converted a penalty. He volleyed in the equaliser 97 seconds later, then scored a second penalty in the 118th minute for only the second hat-trick in a men's World Cup final. Argentina still won the shoot-out 4-2.
