Penalties loomed in Marseille. Platini ended it with a minute left.

France led through Domergue, but Jordão scored twice for Portugal, the second putting them ahead in extra time. Domergue levelled on 114 and Platini won it on 119 with a low finish from Tigana's cross. The hosts wore blue adidas with a red chest band, Platini in number 10, and went through to the final.
