The Battle of Lusail

Argentina 2–2 Netherlands · 4–3 on pens · Lusail Stadium, Lusail, Qatar

Argentina led 2-0, lost it late, then won on penalties.

Messi slipped the through ball for Molina's opener and scored a penalty to make it 2-0, then cupped his hands to his ears in front of the Dutch bench. Weghorst pulled two goals back, the second in the 11th minute of added time, to force extra time. Argentina won the shoot-out 4-3 after Emiliano Martínez saved the first two Dutch kicks.
