Messi scored twice and Argentina won the World Cup on penalties.

Messi scored from the spot, Di María finished a counter-attack, and Argentina led 2-0 with France yet to have an attempt on goal. Mbappé's two goals in 97 seconds levelled it, Messi put Argentina back in front in extra time, and Mbappé equalised again from the spot. Martínez saved Coman's kick and Argentina won the shoot-out 4-2.
