Puskás Drags It Back, Hungary Take Wembley Apart

England 3–6 Hungary · Wembley Stadium, London

England lost at Wembley to a continental side for the first time.

England had never lost at home to a side from outside the British Isles, and Hungary took that record in 90 minutes. Hidegkuti played deep from number 9 and England's markers did not know whom to follow. Puskás added two, and the 6-3 scoreline remade English football.
